Telouet Kasbah

£295.00

On the outskirts of the small Berber village of Telouet in the Atlas mountains lies a ruined Kasbah which should really be a UNESCO World Heritage site.  It was built in 1860 by over 300 craftspeople. and it’s interior is adorned with carved cedar ceilings, mosaics and ornate plasterwork. It is stunning, but the palace is crumbling, the beautiful interiors in danger of being lost because of the merchant owner’s close links with the French at the end of the colonial period. The negative political connotations of this means that the palace has been largely abandonned. Very sad.

Ready to hang.
